The most frequent questions we have been getting asked is where is the house and how do you get there. I will do my best to put this into perspective. The closest international airport is San Jose, Costa Rica (SJO). You can drive from the airport to our house or take a short flight to nearby Quepos. Quepos is a ten minute drive from our place. Our house is on the Central Pacific Coast. We are a ten minute drive inland and up in the mountains. We have a great view of the ocean. The nearest city is Quepos. Quepos has a small airport. We are between two popular destinations - Manuel Antonio and Dominical.
Driving: From SJO, we are about a three to three and a half hour drive depending on traffic. From SJO, you will take Route 27 to Route 34 following the signs to Jaco.
Along the way, about an hour and a half into the drive, you will see Crocodile Bridge in Tarcoles. This is a good place to stretch your legs. From the bridge, you can see giant crocodiles or grab and snack or drink.
After the Crocodile Bridge, you are about twenty minutes from Jaco. Jaco is a fun beach town. After you pass the city of Jaco, there is a sign for Jaco. This is an excellent place to pull over and check out the view. We have seen several dozen pairs of giant scarlet macaws in this area.
About ten minutes past Jaco is Playa Hermosa. There is a restaurant called Bowie's with a great surfer-watching area.
From Playa Hermosa, you are an hour and a half from our place. Just stay on Route 34 until you get to Portolon.
Flight to Quepos: You could take a 22 minute flight from SJO to Quepos. (If you are flying to Quepos, be sure to check the luggage weight restrictions.)
Portosol Living Community: Our community is named the Portosol Living Community. It is a sustainable living community with three waterfalls, river access, hiking trails, and lots of wildlife.
Wishing you a wonderful trip… can’t wait to hear all about your new life:)❤️❤️
